Mobility

When it comes to defining what mobility actually means, there are many definitions and potentially just as many perceptions and interpretations.  For some end users it could simply refer to the fact that they do not work from a fixed office location, and instead work from home, the local coffee shop, or other locations.  Mobility in this context is about location.

For other end users, their interpretation of mobility may mean the ability to work on which ever end point device they choose, whether that’s a desktop PC, tablet, or Smartphone device.  In truth the device they choose to work from may actually be based on their location at the time, combining both end point device and location choices.

Application Delivery

The biggest advantage for end users that use the Liquit Digital Workspace to deliver their applications is that they are all presented from a single, web-based portal, with the same look and feel, regardless from which device they connect from. It is also regardless of the type of application, and the complication of which application version they should launch, depending on which device they are using.  Liquit masks the complexity, and all that the end user will see is the easily recognizable icon for Microsoft Word, for example, on which they click, and Microsoft Word launches. Simple!

Well, behind the scenes it is far from simple, and as an end user they will have no idea, or need to know how Microsoft Word is actually being delivered to them. After all, when you switch on the lights you don’t think about where the electricity comes from, or how it was generated.  You simply flick the switch and on comes the light.

With the Liquit Digital Workspace and Smart Icons it’s the same.  You click on the application icon and it launches.  In this analogy the Smart Icon is the switch and the Liquit Digital Workspace with it’s context aware filters works out the best way to deliver the application – it’s the generating mechanism and the part that the user doesn’t really care about.

Taking the previous example of delivering Microsoft Word, Liquit Digital Workspace place a Smart Icon for Microsoft Word in the end users workspace.  Then, based on the user/device/location context, Liquit can deliver Microsoft Word as a locally installed application, a link to Office365, a published application, or it can even install the application locally on the end user’s device if need be.  It all depends on the policy set by the IT admins, which, by the way, is equally easy to setup and manage. It also allows them to track application usage; ensuring licensing is up to date.

With Smart Icons the IT teams can present the same icon to the end users, but dynamically adjust how the applications and services are being delivered with no interruption to the end users.  Whether that’s delivering a newer version of the application, or moving from an installed version to a cloud hosted version.

Launching an application from the Liquit Digital Workspace is simply a case of double clicking on the appropriate icon from within the Liquit Workspace Launcher, however, behind the scenes Liquit is managing the complexity around how that application is being delivered

What makes Liquit so powerful is its ability to launch and manage the wide and varied number of applications and services that are available to end users today, yet aggregate them into a single web-based portal.

Creating applications for delivery is simplified too.  You simply create a Package, which In Liquit terms defines how content is delivered to an end user.  A package can be a web application (SaaS), a remote application or remote desktop session, local applications, or even define how an application should be installed onto an end point, and then automatically deploy it.

There are three core application delivery mechanisms supported by Liquit:

  • Directly to the Liquit Digital Workspace (including Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Teams integration)
  • Application Installation to the end users device
  • Presented within the Liquit Self-Service Catalog, allowing users to self-serve

These delivery mechanisms simplify the Development, Test, Acceptance, and Production (DTAP) processes that are common in supporting Application Lifecycle Management (ALM).  Each step of the process requires flexibility throughout IT and the organisation as a whole.

Deploying the Liquit Digital Workspace solution enhances these processes by enabling and simplifying the deployment of applications, with the ability to deliver them to a targeted group of end users or devices. This means the entire process from early stage development through to production deployments can be managed from beginning to end.

Contextual-Based Delivery

Ensuring and guaranteeing end user productivity is all about delivering the right end user experience, on the right device, based on the location of the end user.  Or put simply, delivering the right app at the right time.

The Liquit Digital Workspace is all about delivering the appropriate workspace based on context.  The context of who the user is, what type of end point device they are using, and where they are connecting from.

To simplify the process for the IT teams, the Liquit Digital Workspace solution employs an integrated context definition manager (CDM) that enables you to determine and apply the filters to all the resources available to the end users. It allows you to define what, when, and how features and functionality are delivered to an end-user based on the role of the end user within the organization, the type of device they are using to connect from, and finally the location from where they are logging in from.

Taking this approach solves the question around security, and the ability to ensure that end users can only access certain sensitive applications and content from authorized devices and locations.

An advanced feature within the Liquit Digital Workspace is the ability to create a Liquit Workspace Team.  A team can be created by both the end users, and the IT team.  Creating teams is a powerful way of creating unique workspaces to cater for different departments within an organization.  Each unique user within a team can be granted permission to perform different roles, whether they are a standard workspace user, a user with the ability to publish applications, or a team moderator. 

As teams can be created and managed outside of the IT team, and doesn’t bypass any security policies, it gives the end users a sense of that consumer-style way of working that they demand from corporate IT today. They can build their own workspace environments, tailored specifically to suit their teams working environment.  That’s not always something that IT teams understand, or can easily deliver.

Even though the end users can build and manage their own workspace teams, the IT team are still managing the individual applications and services within the workspace, which allows them to continue performing tasks such as updating application versions and defining the way applications are being delivered.
